About Kansas 99S
The Kansas Chapter of Ninety-Nines was chartered in March 1952.
Our Chapter schedules group fly-outs that give us the opportunity to spend time flying, but also to spend time with one another and to see new places and meet new people and to spread the word about the Ninety-Nines! We also hold regular Board Meeting on the first Wednesday of each month. While these meetings are technically Board Meetings, all are welcome and encouraged to come, participate and socialize. Check our calendar to find the next event and join us!

We are proud supporters of the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum in Atchison, Ks. Earhart is an inspiration to all pilots, but is especially dear to us as a native Kansan and a pioneering female pilot.

The Kansas Ninety-Nines also sponsor the Sunflower Rally, a proficiency rally that is open to all pilots male or female and of any skill level. The Rally is usually held in early September and is a great way to become a better pilot and meet others who love to fly.

Who are The Ninety-Nines?
THE NINETY-NINES, INC., is an international organization of licensed women pilots from 35 countries - we currently have over 5,500 members throughout the world. We are a non-profit, charitable membership corporation holding 501(c)(3) U.S. tax status. Our International Headquarters is located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Although there are other female pilot organizations in various states and nations, virtually all women of achievement in aviation have been or are members of The Ninety-Nines. Our members have ranged from Louise Thaden, who won not only the first Women's Air Derby in 1929, but also won the Bendix Trophy Race in the first year (1936) women were allowed to compete against men and in doing so set a new world record to astronaut Eileen Collins, who in 1991 carried Thaden's flying helmet into space on the space shuttle to honor her achievements and the early women pioneer's of flight.
The organization came into being November 2, 1929, at Curtiss Field, Valley Stream, Long Island, New York. All 117 American female pilots had been invited to assemble for mutual support and the advancement of aviation. Louise Thaden was elected secretary and worked tirelessly to keep the group together as we struggled to organize and grow until 1931, when Amelia Earhart was elected as first president and the group was named for the 99 charter members.
Today Ninety-Nines are professional pilots for airlines, industry and government; we are pilots who teach and pilots who fly for pleasure; we are pilots who are technicians and mechanics. But first and foremost, we are women who love to fly!
Our Headquarters, located at the Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is home to our large archival records, video oral histories, personal artifacts, collections and memorabilia, and biographical files on thousands of women pilots from around the world. This is also the site of our 99s Museum of Women Pilots.
